Eating out on a diet can be challenging, to say the least. From oversize portions to fat-laden menu staples, it sometimes seems the deck is stacked against dining out while managing your weight. For me, making special requests -- such as always requesting salad dressing on the side -- is the key to eating out without undoing my weight-loss efforts. What are your favorite tips for eating out on a diet?

green salad

I ignore all the fattening junk on the menu and look for a garden salad, just lettuce and other veggies. No croutons, cheese, stuff like that. I order diet dressing or sometimes just vinegar (no oil). And lots of water or diet cola. Salads are labor-intensive, you can't just scarf them down, so i usually have finished only half my meal by the time my companions are finished eating. Then i take the leftovers home (though i try to have the dressing on the side, because salads tend to wilt quickly).

Water, water everywhere

I find a glass of water before I start eating helps prevent over-doing it - and lots of sipping while I eat too!

Eating out on a diet

First, you want to stay away from fat filled items. When the meal arrives ask for a take out container and immediatley remove half of what is on your plate. Portions are way too large and by removing it first you will not be tempted to eat the whole serving. Or if possible order from kids or seniors menu but that is not always available
