Definition: Adjustable gastric banding is a surgical procedure in which a small bracelet-like band is placed around the top of the stomach to produce a small pouch about the size of a thumb, thereby limiting food intake. Lap-Band surgery is a form of adjustable gastric banding.
Also Known As: AGB, Lap-Band
Examples: After adjustable gastric banding surgery, a balloon located in the band can be inflated or deflated with saline solution to meet the needs of the patient.
