| Quick Tips #7 (Part Three) | |
Making a meal for the family? Don't do it family style. Leave that casserole dish on the kitchen counter. Keep that meat loaf where it's out of reach. Instead of having helpings at the table, dole out single servings on to plates and put them at each person's place setting. When we serve ourselves right at our plate, we're far more likely to get seconds and to take a larger portion in the first place. By keeping your portion size in control, you can save yourself hundreds of calories.
When you get a snack attack, instead of sitting down to the entire bag of chips or pouring a mother lode of pretzels into a cereal bowl, only allow yourself what you can fit into the palm of your hand. Unless you're really hungry, this will be just enough to squelch your snack craving without dessimating your calorie count for the day.
If you're like me and can't bring yourself to drink diet sodas, just make sure you go real heavy on the ice when you're filling the glass up with the full force variety. Put enough cubes to where they reach the rim, then pour on the soda. You'll have an ice cold drink and you'll spare yourself quite a few calories by fooling yourself into thinking you're downing a full glass of the sugary stuff.
