Weight Watchers is one of the most successful and well-known weight-loss programs. It offers a flexible plan that almost anyone can follow. Here is a quick look at what to expect from Weight Watchers:

  • If you choose the meetings-based program, you will attend a weekly Weight Watchers group meeting where you will hear a brief lecture by a Weight Watchers leader.
  • You can complete the Weight Watchers program entirely online if you do not wish to attend meetings.
  • You will be required to weigh-in weekly at a Weight Watchers meeting. If you follow the online version of Weight Watchers you will weigh yourself at home and enter your weight on the Weight Watchers Web site.
  • You will need to limit the food and beverages you consume daily based on your Points allowance (the Weight Watchers method of computing fat, calories and fiber). You will need to measure portions and adhere to serving sizes to accurately track your Points.
  • To accurately track your Points, you will record all of your food and beverage intake either at the Weight Watchers Web site or by using the food journal provided at Weight Watchers meetings.
  • You will need to calculate Points for restaurant foods and any recipes you use. You must locate nutritional information for these foods in order to track your Points.
  • You will be encouraged to "earn" additional Points with physical activity.
  • You will work with your Weight Watchers leader to set a healthy ultimate weight goal.
  • You can expect to lose an average of one to two pounds per week on Weight Watchers. Some weeks you may lose more weight; others, you may lose none at all. (Rate of weight loss varies from person to person on any weight-loss program.)
