If you find that you don't get the support you need at home, there are other places to turn. You're very near one of those places right now! Studies have shown that people who turn to online support are far more likely to succeed in their weight loss efforts than those who try to go it alone. Just head over to our forum and post a message. There are always lots of supportive community members ready to talk dieting, share tips and motivation and discuss whatever else may be on your mind. We've even set up a special buddies section where you can post your message seeking a weight loss buddy and hook up with a "virtual pen-pal" to share each step of your weight loss journey.

The Human Factor
Sometimes nothing can replace being among other people in "the real" world. Need some face-to-face contact with like-minded "losers" to stay focused on your goals? Here are some places where you can find it:

  • Your local hospital may have a wellness or lifestyle center with classes or support groups. Most likely there is a nutritionist on staff with whom you can schedule a one-on-one consultation.
  • Some physical therapy facilities offer special packages for individuals wanting to lower their blood pressure or lose weight. They usually call this a "wellness plan". You'll pay a monthly fee to have access to the facilities and the advice of the physical therapists.
  • Find out if there is a TOPS or Weight Watchers meeting in your community. Why not try both to see which works best for you? While Weight Watchers has its own eating plan, TOPS is a support group and doesn't designate that members follow any particular diet, just that you get your doctor's okay before starting to try to lose weight.
  • A counselor, social worker or certified therapist in your area can help you with behavior modification and some even specialize in weight issues. Ask your nurse practitioner or physician for a referral.
  • Join your local YMCA. Not only will you gain usage of the gym equipment and access to exercise classes, there are often support groups, seminars, classes and personal training sessions to take advantage of.
  • Form your very own weight loss club! Post a notice up in your local library or your workplace looking for like-minded waist-whittlers and set up a weekly meeting. Most civic centers or libraries will provide a meeting place for this type of function.
So, as you can see, there are plenty of places to get the help and support you need. The important part is to swallow that pride and ask for it. You won't be sorry.
