Q: Linda, will you please introduce yourself to our readers?

A: I am the Personal Web Pages Guide for About. I live in Pennsylvania, USA. I have three boys ages 8, 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. I work from home while taking care of my 2 younger sons. My husband is a clock maker and makes and repairs clocks from a shop in our house. It's wonderful that we can both be home with the kids but it is sometimes very hard to get work done and keep the house clean while watching them.

Since I'm home the food often calls to me from the kitchen. I pretend not to hear it but sometimes it does get to be too much. It's sometimes hard to exercise too because the kids want to be on the treadmill too. I have to arrange my schedule to do it while one of them is napping. It is a challenge to lose weight but it is possible and it will happen eventually.

Q: How much weight have you lost so far?

A: I have lost about 30 pound since the birth of my last son.

Q: What is your weight loss goal?

A: I have about 30 more to go. I'd like to weigh about 120.

Q: Did you have a "moment of truth" when you decided to lose weight?

A: My oldest son kept referring to me as fat. When I stopped nursing I decided this was a great time to start taking charge of my weight.

Q: Have you done a certain diet or are you doing it on your own?

A: I tried the Atkins diet and lost 8 pounds in 10 days but I needed carbohydrates so I had to stop. Then I tried Xenical with a low fat diet. Again I lost about 8 pounds but couldn't stand the side effects of the medicine, (we won't go into that here).

I started walking on my treadmill for 30 minutes each day. I would listen to music or a cassette book to motivate me to stay on. After a couple weeks I was jogging and in a month I was running. Then I added stomach crunches and standing push-ups to the routine. By this time I was really starting to see a difference. I was in a smaller size and I had tons of energy, I could also focus on tasks longer and remember things better.

The only thing I was doing as far as diet was to eat only when I was truly hungry, about 4 times a day. I have since stopped eating white bread and switched to oat bran. I read that bran is a natural fat blocker. Oh, drinking fluids is good too, and not just coffee and soda. I still need my chocolate though, but not as much.
