Before You Start Exercising...

Follow me on:

The warm weather in my neck of the woods has a lot of otherwise sedentary folks vowing to walk daily in my neighborhood. We got a real wake up call when a neighbor a few houses down collapsed. He's okay, but after the scare, I wanted to share a few pointers here for you if you've been sedentary and are considering exercising.

You should not exercise until you doctor gives you an OK if any of the following applies to you:

  • Your doctor suspected you have, or diagnosed you with, any cardiac condition.
  • You have had pressure, pain or tightness in your chest following physical activity.
  • You have an irregular or uneven heartbeat.
  • You have recently had dizzy spells, or you've fainted.
  • You have been diagnosed with high cholesterol or Type 2 diabetes.
