Healthy college cafeteria food choices aren't as difficult as you may think. You will find you have many healthy foods to choose from -- if you can look past the cheese sticks and hamburgers, that is! Here's a quick guide to healthy college cafeteria food choices:

Choose:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Low-fat dips, salsa or hummus
  • Whole-grain cereals like Cheerios
  • Low-fat dairy products
  • Eggs
  • Salads
  • Lean meat, such a turkey or chicken breast
  • Grilled, baked, broiled, stir-fried, or pan-seared dishes

Avoid:

  • Soda
  • Ice cream, cookies, brownies, etc.
  • Hamburgers or hot dogs
  • Refined carbs like white rice, soda crackers, and bagels
  • Regular dairy products, such as whole milk or ice cream
  • Pizza
  • Potato and tortilla chips
