Day Five
It's those pesky everyday habits that are almost getting the best of me. I successfully cleaned out my pantry of the non-SBD-friendly foods on Day One, but that doesn't protect me from the real world.
Like today, I hit the salad bar at a local chain restaurant. My hands automatically reached for the pasta salad and once I realized what I was doing, one lonely spiral sat in my bowl and I put the pasta spoon back in the bowl so fast it must have looked like I was afraid it would bite me.
The croutons were another auto pilot move. I made it all the way to the table with those and then had to pick them off when I realized the error of my ways.
I asked my server if she had a nutritional chart so I could check the sugar content of the salad dressings. She said she wasn't sure if they had it or not, but there was low-fat dressing if I preferred it. (But that was no good. Sugar is the concern and low-fat dressings can easily have more sugar than regular ones!).
In the end, it was another salad sans dressing. Definitely not my favorite way to eat a helping of "rabbit food". I'm going to have to make like that weird lady in the salad dressing commercial and carry a bottle in my purse from now on.
So ... tell me. Do any of you experienced "South Beachers" out there have some advice for me about dining on this diet? What's your way of getting around not knowing what's "on" or "off" the plan when you're out and about? Share your advice and I'll include it in an upcoming entry!
