Nuts are one of the types of foods allowed on Phase One of The South Beach Diet.

The South Beach Diet provides lists of foods to avoid and foods to enjoy during different portions of the plan (known as "Phases" of the diet). During Phase One of The South Beach Diet, you will be able to eat many of the foods you currently enjoy, including ground beef and a variety of vegetables. Allowed foods on Phase One of The South Beach Diet include, but aren't limited to:

Certain meats and poultry, including:

  • Boiled ham
  • Lean ground beef
  • Turkey and chicken breast
  • Canadian and turkey bacon
  • Low- and non-fat lunch meat

All types of seafood

Beans, including:

  • Black eyed peas
  • Great northern beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Pinto beans

A wide variety of vegetables, including:

  • Tomatoes
  • Squash
  • Onions
  • Mushrooms
  • Lettuce
  • Sprouts
  • Spinach
  • Okra
Nuts (one serving each day, including almonds, cashews or macadamia nuts)

Low-fat cheeses

Eggs

Fats and oils (such as olive oil, avocado, or mayo)

Sugar substitutes

Specified treats (such as sugar-free gelatin, hard sugar-free candy and fudge pops)
