Foods to Avoid on Phase One of the South Beach Diet

Despite being nutritious, carrots are one of the foods to avoid on Phase One of The South Beach Diet.

The South Beach Diet provides lists of foods that are to be avoided and enjoyed during different portions of the plan (known as "Phases"). You will need to remove several common foods from your diet during the first Phase of the plan, including carrots, cereals, and bread. Foods to avoid on Phase One of The South Beach Diet include, but are not limited to:

Certain meats and poultry, including:

  • Fatty cuts of beef
  • Prime rib
  • Dark meat chicken and turkey
  • Honey-baked ham

Certain vegetables, including:

  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Corn
  • Green peas

All starches, including:

  • Bread
  • Potatoes
  • Cereal
  • Pasta
  • Rice

All fruit and fruit juice

Whole milk

All alcohol

All sweets, including

  • Ice cream
  • Baked goods
  • Candy
