- Write down any questions you think of beforehand.
- Bring a family member for support.
- Bring pen and paper to take notes during your appointment.
- Let your doctor know you want to talk about your weight.
- Show your doctor the diet you are considering, including sample meal plans.
- Ask if any of your medical conditions are related to your weight.
- Ask if medicines you are taking affect your weight.
- Don't hesitate to ask questions if your doctor says something you do not understand.
- Ask for additional sources of information, such as brochures, or recommended Internet-based resources.
- Ask about a referral to a registered dietitian, support group or weight-loss program.
- Don't be afraid to call and ask additional questions you may think of after your visit or to clarify something you didn't understand.
