Yes. There are potential risks and side effects for any surgery and gastric bypass is no exception just because the procedure has been improved.

According to Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (which offers the procedure), complications can include: wound infection, hernia, ulcers, blood clots in lungs, and death. Please discuss the risks of gastric bypass in detail with your physician.
