Soup's on! Take off the winter chill by enjoying these hot and hearty soups and stews that just happen to also be low in calories. All are from the About.com Guide to low calorie cooking.

Crock Pot Beef Stew

This has to be the ultimate in comfort food.  Chunks of bite-size beef and plenty of veggies make this soup hearty while keeping it low calorie.  Brush the dust off the Crock Pot -- this one is sure to become a favorite.  Calories:  303

Vegetarian Chili

I relied on canned vegetarian chili until I realized how easy making it myself could be.  This recipe is ready in less than an hour.  It freezes well, so you can prepare it over the weekend and use it during the busy work week. It's so low in calories you will have plenty to spare for yummy toppings like some cheese or sour cream. Calories:  147

Crock Pot Chicken Stew

A comfort food favorite for under 200 calories!  This stew is so much heartier than chicken soup.  It's easy to prep and after five or six hours, it's ready thanks to your slow-cooker.  Calories: 179

New England Clam Chowder

This was a childhood favorite, but I didn't think it could be diet-friendly.  Thanks to this recipe, it can be!  This version is just as creamy as the traditional kind, but for a lot less calories.  Calories: 200

Chicken Tortilla Soup

If you like Mexican food, but have never tried chicken tortilla soup, you are missing out!  This version uses canned ingredients that allow you to prepare it in around 20 minutes flat.  The low calorie count even includes some chips and cheese as garnish. Calories: 155
