Stick to that New Year's Resolution to Lose Weight!
- Bring in the troops You don't have to go it alone! Tell your friends and family what you want to accomplish and tell them how they can help you (and warn them of what doesn't help). Telling someone else your goals will probably make you feel that much more dedicated to reaching them. Who knows, maybe you'll even find a weight loss buddy among your peers who will join you on your journey to weight loss. Two heads are always better than one, especially when it comes to staying motivated!
- Chart your progress. One of the things I like most about the Weight Watchers program is the fact that your progress is charted weekly and you are rewarded each time you meet a goal. Keep a record of your weight loss. You don't have to be a member of this weight loss group to practice this. Set up your own rewards system. Chart your progress and for every five pounds you lose, treat yourself to something special. Five pounds could mean a new paperback book; 10 pounds a new department store brand lipstick. Reaching a milestone like 25 or 50 pounds could mean a weekend getaway. Go ahead and set the rewards you want now so you can look forward to them as you are working towards your goals.
- Be realistic. Nothing sets you up for failure more than having unrealistic expectations. If you've set an unrealistic goal, say, losing 20 pounds in one month, you will become very discouraged when that doesn't happen. The best weight loss is slow and steady loss, around one to two pounds a week. Any more than that and it may not be healthy and it probably won't stay off. Most of us took years to gain the weight we are trying to lose, so there is no reason why we should expect for it to drop off with a snap of our fingers.
Best of luck with your weight loss goals for the new year. Remember to return to this site often for information that will help you along your way. If you're ever in a bind, be sure to visit our message board and holler for help -- you will be among friends. Happy new year!
