Foods you will give up during Phase 1 of The South Beach Diet include, but are not limited to:

- Prime rib
- Dark meat chicken and turkey
- Honey-baked ham

Certain Vegetables, including:
- Beets
- Carrots
- Corn
- Green peas

All Starches, including:
- Bread
- Potatoes
- Cereal
- Pasta
- Rice
- All Fruit and Fruit Juice
- Whole Milk
- All Alcohol

All Sweets, including
- Ice cream
- Baked goods
- Candy
