Quick Tips #7

Our "Quick Tips" article series brings you practical, effective weight loss tips that lead to permanent weight loss. How can making such easey changes work in the long run? It's the small changes that you make -- and stick with -- that are going to add up to pounds lost and kept off!

  • Soup's On!
Years ago, I heard a weight loss expert swear by drinking a liter of water before a meal, saying it made her feel full. I tried it and felt like I was floating… not full. But I did find a similar trick that does work. A cup of soup before a meal will take the edge off of your hunger, possibly preventing you from giving in to over-eating. The trick is to be sure to choose broth-based soups like minestrone rather than creamy soups, because cream-based soups have a higher fat and calorie content.
  • Just Rewards
Don’t put off being good to yourself until you’re at your goal weight. Putting off your rewards until the very end of your weight loss journey is a sure-fire way to set yourself up for failure. Why? Because you’re telling yourself you’re not worthy of those good things until you’re that "new" person. Reward yourself in a non-food way with every significant loss.
  • Body Beautiful
Another way to ensure your weight loss success is to accept yourself as you are right now, this very minute. Developing a healthy body image is key to staying motivated and staying focused when you get into the maintenance phase. Accept that nobody and no body is perfect. Guess what? You never will be! Neither will I (Very far from it, to say the least!). Constantly remind yourself of all your beautiful, unchanging qualities. They're all yours, regardless of the numbers on the scale or the size clothing you wear!
