A Day at the Beach: My Daily Review of The South Beach Diet (Day 4)

Day Four

Cravings Linger
I must admit that I really miss carbs. This could be because I've been relatively high-carb eating for so many years.

Maybe it takes a little longer to get used to not eating them if you've been eating a bunch? Well, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

For the most part, it's not so bad; I haven't given in. I know I'll wake up one of these mornings and not want to inhale a bag of chips oh-so-very-much.

Don't Hate Me Because I'm Satiated...
You know how you always hear people on TV saying "I've been on this diet for weeks and I'm never hungry."? I've always thought: "Yeah, right. Not hungry on a diet? When pigs fly."

Well, a porker just took wing over my computer, because I have say, I am not feeling those ever-present hunger pangs I've experienced on other diets (particularly low-fat ones).

I chalk that sense of satiety up to the mandatory snacks on this plan. A lot of low-fat diets I've been on include snacks too, but the foods they were comprised of just didn't seem to have the staying power the foods on this plan do.

Bye-Bye Breadie
One of the tricks to lunching on this diet during the first two weeks is to eat sandwiches sans bread. You roll up your lunchmeat, etc. in lettuce leaves instead.

As I stared down at my sorta-sandwich the first time, I kept thinking of those blue haired ladies on that old fast food commercial on TV, except I'm staring at my lunch asking, "Where's the bread?!" But by today's lunch, my fourth day on this plan, it's not so bad. Just different!

Summing it Up
Overall, I'll give this diet a thumbs up: So far, so good. I feel confident that my carb cravings will subside soon and I'm very pleased that the meal plan is satisfying.
