"Smart Swap!": Savoring Strawberry

Saturday September 6, 2008
Summertime always meant a trip for picking strawberries when I was growing up. My mom always planned to make strawberry shortcake or strawberry pie, but for me, nothing was better than a plain old berry on its own. Turns out they have health benefits that way. All I knew then: Summer was here... school's out... time for fun!

I don't get those fresh berries any more, but when I have a hankering for them, I just have to address it, typically in the form of a smoothie made with frozen strawberries; it's not quite the same but it quells my craving. I get a fix on the go, too: When I'm being very good, sugar-free Jell-o cup will suffice. When I am being extremely good, I love sugar-free strawberry bubblegum.

Unfortunately, pining for berries most recently translated to a helping of strawberry ice cream. My strawberry fix is easier on my calorie budget when I swap that cup of strawberry ice cream for a Yoplait Whips in Strawberry Mist -- I save 114 calories!
