How Low is Too Low?

Thursday June 19, 2008
Earlier this week, a couple who is relatively well-known as being proponents of "calorie restriction" -- which is basically an ongoing Very Low Calorie Diet -- appeared on a popular morning talk show. The husband is touting his upcoming book where he reveals the "secrets" as to why eating so few calories can be the key to weight management and longevity.

The couple claims they have found a virtual "fountain of youth" by severely restricting the amount of calorie they eat daily. Beware -- this diet isn't for most of us. In fact, Very Low Calorie Diets should only be followed under a doctor's care. As an expert who appeared on the show mentioned, this way of life can be dangerous and even lead to serious health problems, such as anemia, weakness, depression and more.
